cookies!

mmmmmmm.....cookies.  I found these adorable cookies on the Glamour Damaged blog, and boy do they look yummy!  I could really go for those sugar cookies right about now.  The bee ones are just plain cute, but I'm sure the black frosting is ick.  I love the wax paper wings!  I can't wait to bake cookies again.  The timing isn't quite right though, with me trying to lose weight and all.  Not to mention the broken oven.  If I had a money tree in my backyard, I'd be quick to purchase one of these swell pink stoves from Bars & Booths.  How dreamy would it be to have all pink appliances in your kitchen?!  I'd be in heaven!!!

spring cleaning

Yesterday we started a major cleaning project in our house.  Our goal is to have a reasonably clean slate of a house to come back to after we go to Colorado.  This gives us about a month and a half.  We have too much stuff.  Way too much stuff.  The ultimate goal is to get rid of as much crap as possible and only be left with quality items that we actually use and enjoy in our home.  This won't be easy.  Room by room we will be working hard every day.  Hopefully by the end of summer, or in the fall we will actually be able to move on to renovations that we so desperately need.  It will feel so good to finally feel like I can call my house a home.  When we get done we'll have a nice dinner party or something lovely like that.  Wish me luck!!

happy mother's day

3 days late, i know.  that's what happens when you're a busy mother.  time flies right out the window.  that personal time you get for yourself has to be claimed desperately in 4 minute increments.  if you can manage to stay awake while they are asleep, this works nicely as well.  i hope all you mommys out there had a good mother's day.  i slept in, had breakfast in bed, went plant shopping with my mama, went out to eat, and to the movies.  i got construction paper cards and tissue paper flowers.  i'd like to say i didn't have to break up any fights or to tell them to calm down, but that would be untrue.  the day i'm free of that is the day i'll realize that all the sudden they're not little anymore, and i'll probably start to cry.

i recently saw this movie and i cried 3 times.  it is heartbreakingly honest.  you have to see it!

the perks of waking up at 5:30 am. to run.

yeah that's right. i run at 5:30 am.  well not really.  i start running at 6.  i do however wake up before 5:30 am.  crazy.  i know.  it's dark outside.  and cold.  and really really quiet.  i'm not running away really, just sort of escaping for a bit.  waking up before the rest of the world does.  it's peaceful.  sam and i noticed this morning that the animals seem to be letting us get closer and closer to them.  it's like we're in a disney movie sometimes.  so far we've seen lots of birds and squirrels, a fox, a baby bunny, a crawdad the size of a lobster (ok maybe small crab is more realistic.  we poked it with a stick because we're 5), a black cat that jackie tried to bring home with her one day, an opossum, tons and tons of giant nasty worms (and lots of disgusting swarms of tiny clear insects), geese, and the most adorable beaver you've ever seen.  i run with weights. and i run up stairs.  i do 100 sit-ups.  it gets comical at times.  we really do look like a couple of dorks out there at the lake.  but we have so much fun it doesn't matter.  it's nice doing yoga while watching the sun rise.  it lifts your spirits and really sets the tone for the rest of the day.  i can't wait to get up in 5 hours and do it all again!

Apples for Jam: A Colorful Cookbook Apples for Jam: A Colorful Cookbook by Tessa Kiros

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I loved the simple recipes, and the author's childhood stories.  It was also fun that the recipes are color coded!

meaghan smith

If you know me at all, you know I don't always listen to the coolest music.  I just don't have time to find non mainstream music that I like.  These things take so much time, and I'm weird and picky about what I like.  Honestly though, I think the reason I haven't indieified my playlist is because of pure laziness.  While distracting myself with blogs one morning (one of my favorite things to do), I did happen to stumble upon this jazzy bird though.  I thought you might enjoy her as well.

I love this song, because it reminds me of those first few months of my relationship with KC.  We would always say "I feel you" instead of "I love you" because it was our own cute little thing we did so we didn't overuse that phrase.

un éléphant.

Some images are just too precious to slap up on the fridge.  This little gem just kills me!  Kid art is just so sweet and perfect sometimes isn't it?  I just knew this elephant drawing belonged in a frame, but the white background seemed a little dull. So off  we went to Michaels to pick up some scrapbook paper and a pretty silver frame at 40% off.  I cut the scrapbook paper to fit the frame, cut out the elephant (see the tiny mouse?), and glued it on the pretty background.  In the frame it went, and voila.  Ready for a real wall.  I think I will do more of this with my girls art.  Cut & paste the adorable bits together.  You know how sometimes the little one draws something so perfect that you hold your breath and hope that they are done.....and then they add something else that just well, adds too much?  I love that my girls express themselves through art.  As a mom, you of course have your personal favorites.  The kids do too.  Sometimes their favorites and your favorites aren't the same.  It's funny how Daisy told me that she didn't particularly like that elephant drawing, and that she didn't think it was one of her best.  The elephant is definitely my favorite.  Go figure.

3 column!

I finally found out how to change my blogger template to a 3 column blog!  I've been wanting to know this since I started blogging.  All the cool bloggers have one.  For some reason (blog design snobbery?) this information is really hard to find, and especially if you don't know squat about HTML.  The instructions here were easy enough to follow though.  This little lady here helped me figure out how to change my header fonts to lowercase.  Good Luck!

egg on toast

One of the most simple & delicious breakfasts ever.  Toast a piece of bread, crack an egg into a pan of hot olive oil, cook til over-easy.  Put your egg on toast and sprinkle on some sea salt and fresh cracked pepper.  Devour.

"how bad do you really want it?"

Goodbye Dove chocolate bunnies.  I'll miss you.  Remember when I said I was going to lose at least 20 lbs. before July?  yeah.  I didn't do so hot in March.  If my scale is correct, I did lose about 4 lbs., which isn't bad, but still.  Scarfing down cookie cake and pizza is hardly dieting.  But I have been a good girl with my little Subway lunches (6 inch turkey on Italian herb and cheese, American cheese, lettuce, cucumber, green peppers, lite mayo, apples, and unsweetened iced tea).  4 pounds is 4 pounds.  But when we go to Colorado early July, I want to look hot and not frumpy when I meet KC's friends for the first time.  So I gotta step up my game.  I can eat fairly healthy, but without keeping track of my calories those chocolate bunnies here and there might kill my progress.  Food diaries work.  Counting calories works.  I'll be adding exercise too.  Thanks to the rain, I won't be meeting Sam at 6 am for a jog in the park.  I'm so relieved I get to sleep in tomorrow!  Oh cuss, I was really looking forward to that!  :)

turning 9

" o how fine to be turning nine "

I can't believe I have a 9 year old!  In less than 10 years she'll be an adult.  Leaving me to start a life on her own.  sniff.  Until then...

She had a small and sweet celebration with the family at Shakespeares Pizza.  Budget & behavior wouldn't allow the big backyard circus themed BBQ that was originally planned.  Tweenage drama at it's finest.  Better luck next year?  Or perhaps an end of school BBQ?  We shall see.  Keep your fingers crossed.......we're trying.

what did the easter bunny bring you?
